The left side of the layout is the Cascade mining district (shown here as it starts to take shape). The right side of the layout is the town of Perrins. The mining district is supposed to be high up in a basin, around 11,000 feet. The town of Perrins is "sub-alpine" or around 8-9,000 feet in elevation. This illusion will be enhanced as I develop the foreground, choice of trees and vegetation, etc. But the large chasm will allow the eye to accept two different elevations even though they're basically right across from one another on the bench.
